Studying cultural layers

External Services:

I began in the 60s as an assistant with the archaeology unit in Cambridge and
within a short time directed my first dig, of a 'Saxon Shore Fort'. Since then,
I have studied sites across the world, from the Pacific and South China Sea,
Sub-Saharan Africa, the Mediterranean and - of course - Britain.

I read History and continued studies (archaeology and other subjects) at
various universities until in my 40s.

There is another aspect to my professional life which has given me an insight
into world affairs. Good history should relate the past to the present and with
the insights I have gained, this is how I approach current affairs.
